Bowls > Odd-shaped bowls
At club meetings we hold a "wood swap" among the members. I came away from one of these swaps with part of a Yew tree which had been felled close to one person's home.
I found out when I got it home that it was actually two intertwined trunks -- plus a fair amount of gravel and earth, which I brushed away before putting it on the lathe.
The shape of one piece was so interesting that I thought it would be fun to try keeping some of its odd character in whatever I turned from it. The wings make it a little wobbly, but with some ballast in the dish it's quite stable.
Below and right: a "winged bowl" made of Yew.
